The Invictus Games

The Invictus Games is an international sporting event aimed at wounded, injured, and sick service personnel. It seeks to make a difference in the lives of servicemen and women by using sport to encourage recovery and rehabilitation, and to help form a greater understanding and respect amongst the public for what these people have done for their country.

First started in 2014 by the Duke of Sussex after he visited the Warrior Games 2013 in the USA, he saw the potential of sport in helping those suffering from injuries and illness, and so he ran the Invictus Games 2014 in London to a great success.

Thus, the Invictus Games Foundation was born. Since its creation they have held 3 other Games in Orlando, Toronto, and Sydney with one being run this year in The Hague. The most recently held games, Syndney 2018, saw 491 competitors participate in 11 different sports – with the 2022 The Hague games planning to see over 500 competitors in action.

An event like this is worth keeping an eye on and supporting – they help a section of the population whose lives have changed irrevocably to find the motivation to move on from their past and create a new future for themselves. As always, stay Defiant!
