This is a direct quote from tennis champion Jamie Murray. The impact of support from parents is huge to children. No matter a child’s ability level, if their parents provide support then the success of the child has no limits. They will play with confidence and security knowing their parents support them no matter what.
NBA star LeBron James has said this about his mum “Whatever my mom could do or could not do, I always knew that nobody was more important in her life than I was. You have no idea how much that means”. James, one of the most decorated and successful athletes ever, regularly acknowledges the support of his mother and how powerful that has been for him. He has spoken about how he would not be the man nor the athlete he is without his mum.
Defiant Sports would also not be around were it not for the unwavering support of a mother for her son. Our managing director Loretta started all of this for her son Callum. She wanted him to have a place in sport, so she made the space herself! Callum became No.1 in British visually impaired tennis within a year, and this would not have been possible without Loretta.
However, we are aware that finding a place for your child in sport can sometimes prove a challenge, particularly if they have a disability or additional needs. That’s why #TeamDefiant are here to support parents if they are unsure of where their child fits; we will always find something for them! Our coaches are very knowledgeable and understanding and will be able to find something your child will enjoy. Sport also offers respite for parents – parenting is a full-time job and is not easy. Bringing your child to our Hub for a little while provides you some rest, allowing you to care for your child to the best of your ability and not get burnt out. If you are thinking about bringing your child to start a new activity with us, please do! We are always happy to have new players, and everyone is welcome.
