It has officially been a full week since our indoor social sessions returned to our hub and we are so happy to have a little bit of normalcy back in our lives. If you have not been to a session yet we recommend stopping by for a bit! The social interaction from the session is really important for improving mental health and wellbeing, as well as reducing social isolation and any anxieties that may have been created during the lockdown period.
This week we are highlighting our Sensory Arts and Crafts sessions. These sessions are designed and aimed at people with SEND or ASD, but all are welcome! Each week we do a different craft that is usually themed (such as Christmas or Easter), and these run every Monday afternoon form 2-4pm in the inclusion hub. All ages are welcome, and the price is £4 per person. A great fact about arts and crafts is that they are a form of sensory play! This helps children use their senses differently and it is also useful for brain development. Through sensory play, children can learn to block out unimportant noise and focus on the task at hand when in a busy area such as a playground.
We also have our Adult Active Social returning to our hub! This is a social session, similar to our youth clubs, designed for adults. All the equipment in our hub is accessible to play with (air hockey, basketball arcade machine, exercise machine, pool, table tennis, etc.), and we also organise a sport in the sports area such as boccia or curling. This is another great chance to socialise and have some fun with your peers in an informal way! We run this social every Friday from 2pm-3:30pm in the inclusion hub for £3 per person. Come join these sessions to socialise and have fun!
As always, stay defiant!
