We invite you to take part in the Mencap “Round the World Challenge”.
This challenge has been created in order to promote exercise in sport for children and adults with disabilities. Simply put, hours spent participating in sport or exercise of some sort (running, weightlifting, yoga, Zumba, etc…) can be translated into kilometers travelled. Upon sign-up for the program, participants will receive a passport that they can log their activity hours into, which in turn allows them to travel the world virtually! In your portal where you log your activity levels, there is also access to a map where you can track exactly where you have travelled. The website is very user-friendly, specially designed to be accessible for participants with disabilities. The best part is that it’s free! All you need is an email to sign up with.
To travel around the UK and Europe would take about 40 hours of exercise, and to travel all around the world would take 100 hrs! At each new location, you will receive a postcard personalized to that city and you will also receive a “Round the World Challenge” t-shirt when you sign-up.
We will be hosting 2 activities starting in April if the COVID restrictions lift enough to allow us (more details to come). We will be running Boccia and Disco Fit! Both of these activities can count towards your Mencap challenge if you sign up. If you attend both sessions every week for a year, that would be enough exercise to travel around the world!
Past participants from this challenge have noticed increases in overall health, some weight loss, but also a new sense of confidence and renewed happiness that was not present before. This is an awesome challenge to take part in, and we hope many of you decide to join!
As always, stay Defiant!
