Latest News at Defiant!

Over the past month we have had some very exciting things happening at Defiant Sports!

Back in September, we were thrilled to find out that we will finally have a venue, appropriately named the ‘Inclusion Hub’. Though legal businesses is still underway regarding access to the property down at Sovereign Harbour, we are eagerly planning how we will use this space for our upcoming sessions. As we are only a local charitable organisation, we have contacted business and companies in the hopes of funding or materials being supplied. If you know anyone, or a company who may be able to help, we are in need of all things from plumbing to tennis nets, so please don’t hesitate to contact us!

Mid-way through September came An Evening with the Fabulous Miss Jason, kindly hosted and organised by The Kings Arms. This made for a hilarious evening, with an amazing turn out. Through ticket proceeds and a raffle, this event raised an outstanding amount of over £600 for Defiant Sports. Thank you to everyone at The Kings Arms for your time and efforts, especially Kevin and Lindsay Peters, and of course to everyone who attended this event.

Later in September, Joel and Loretta attended the East Sussex Business Awards 2019. Here, we were lucky enough to win the award for ‘Social Enterprise of the Year’! It is always great to know that our efforts to provide fully inclusive sports are being recognised, and inspires us even more to continue our good work.

Finally, and most recently, our Managing Director Loretta worked to get Defiant Sports involved with the Disability Involvement Group (DIG). After impressing the board, Loretta gained full membership for Defiant Sports, and will be attending her first meeting in December.

That’s all from us and our latest news, so here is a recent quote from Eastbourne MP, Stephen Lloyd to round it up: “I am a big fan of Defiant Sports and admire hugely their worthwhile ethos that anyone feels better by doing some sort of sport or exercise, no matter the disability or illness. Top charity. Top community engagement”.

And remember, stay defiant!
