Maintaining our mission of inclusivity for all, we have recently begun introducing OpenDyslexic font into our marketing posters, flyers, and so on. As described by its creator, Abelardo Gonzalez:
OpenDyslexic is created to help with some of the symptoms of dyslexia. Letters have heavy weighted bottoms to indicate direction. You are able to quickly figure out which part of the letter is down which aids in recognizing the correct letter, and sometimes helps to keep your brain from rotating them around. Consistently weighted bottoms can also help reinforce the line of text. The unique shapes of each letter can help prevent confusion through flipping and swapping.
Hence, we are hoping that by using this font in our marketing materials, we can further make our sessions and everything that we do promote inclusion for all, regardless of disabilities. Our next mission with this font is to use it in our newsletter, meaning no one will be excluded from, or have difficulties in reading about all that we do at Defiant Sports. Whilst these are only small changes, we hope that it makes everyone feel included in what we do. In the future, we may be able to use this font on our website to further our mission of inclusivity, but for now we are hoping that creating our visual ads and newsletters in this font will begin aiding our dyslexic users in their engagement with Defiant Sports.
The best thing about OpenDyslexic is that the font is free to use and download, with an optional donation upon download based on how much you believe the software is worth. If you, or a family member would benefit from this font, go to https://opendyslexic.org to download the fonts. It can be downloaded to laptops, MacBooks, and even smartphones!
Below you will see an example of how we have begun using OpenDyslexic font in our marketing materials, for our pressure toy advert.
We hope this may help some our of readers and players out there!
As always, stay Defiant!
