This week we are thrilled to announce our official partnership between the Lawn Tennis Association and our Inclusion Hub to become an official LTA venue! Of course, there is still a little more paperwork to be completed, but once everything is finalised, we will be able to run tournaments in partnership with the LTA.
This recent partnership means we will have more access to resources in order to help our community get involved with the LTA, and also provide tennis year-round whilst promoting fully inclusive and accessible tennis! We are super excited and looking forward to all the other benefits that come along with being an LTA venue, and we are grateful to be furthering our relationship with the LTA.
With Prime Minister Boris Johnson releasing his roadmap to lifting lockdown across the UK, the Eastbourne International Tennis Event has received confirmation that it will take place this year. It will be running June 19-26th at Devonshire Park, although information about spectators and ticket sales have yet to be released. Visit https://www.lta.org.uk/major-tennis-events/british-major-events/eastbourne-international/ as there will be further information posted as those dates get closer.
#TeamDefiant will be running disability sessions for Eastbourne Tennis the same weekend as the International Event, and more info will be released to our community soon. We are waiting on regulations for participants and any more government guidance about hosting an event such as this. Last year we planned to do 4 hours of tennis on the Saturday of the tournament in the Inclusion Hub, this would have included a mental health hour, visually impaired hour, learning disability hour and hearing-impaired hour. Unfortunately, all of our plans were cancelled due to the COVID pandemic. However, this is a good idea of what to expect this year when we host our weekend of inclusive Eastbourne Tennis.
We are optimistically looking forward to a summer filled with inclusive tennis!
As always, stay Defiant!
