We have graciously been invited by Jo Ognjanovic from Polegate Town Council to bring our services to the Polegate War Memorial Recreation Grounds. This is an initiative to bring inclusive sport to the recreation grounds which we are very excited to be a part of! We will work alongside the football and cricket clubs who currently use this space for training to provide the local community with inclusive and diverse activities. These grounds are located in Polegate and used by Polegate Football Club and Polegate & Stone Cross Cricket Club for training. The area is overseen by the Polegate Town Council.
We will be using the indoor centre at the grounds for boccia sessions which we hope to start when lockdown is lifted and travel is permitted, and we will also take advantage of the spacious recreation grounds for a wide variety of fitness and athletics. The outdoor gym area will be used to provide sessions for people who may not be confident exercising, teaching them how to use gym equipment properly and safely.
We are also very excited to be planning an inclusive cricket sessions for people with disabilities which will take place on Polegate War Memorial Recreation Grounds this summer (covid-19 permitting). This will be planned in collaboration with Andy from Polegate & Stone Cross Cricket Club and Sussex Country Cricket.
We cannot wait to start planning these sessions for all of our players and really making the most of our time at the Polegate War Memorial Recreation Grounds. We are hope to see you at our sessions there when we can return to sport!

Good afternoon, Please may I bring it to your attention, that the area that you refer to as ‘Wannock Recreation Grounds’ is not the correct title. Neither is it overseen by Fields in Trust. FiT are merely the trust holders that ensure the land remains available for recreation in perpetuity. Polegate Town Council are the owners and controllers.
The correct title of the 5 acres is, “Polegate War Memorial Recreation Ground”, Wannock Road, Polegate, BN26 5JG. It is the actual ground which is the War Memorial. The land was purchased on 30th January 1922 by three local Polegate men, as a memorial to the 33 Polegate men that lost their lives in World War One. On 16th April 1926 the land was conveyed free of charge to the local Council. On 16th July 2014 HRH the Duke of Cambridge launched the “Centenary Fields” a joint project by FiT and the Royal British Legion to put into trust any Great War; parks, memorial gardens, recreation grounds etc.
On Friday 31st October 2014 the Lord Lieutenant of Sussex unveiled the Centenary Fields plaque at the ground. Polegate being the first town in the UK to have land so dedicated. To honour the 33 Polegate men that died, 33 Red helium balloons were released. With Regards.
