Eastbourne Bowling Club recently invited Joel and some of our players to visit their site at the Saffrons in Eastbourne Town Centre. This was to experience the inclusion and accessibility of both their club, and bowls as a sport. Overall, Joel said the day, club and Derek who showed them around were “lovely and friendly”.
Similar to boccia, bowls can easily be played seated, which already takes out a massive barrier that many people with mobility issues face in sports participation. Additionally, you can get special equipment such as jack lifters, bowling arms, and even walking frames designed specifically for playing bowls. As a result of this, we will soon be looking to set up a disability bowls session with Eastbourne Bowling Club soon. This comes after our players had an amazing time, and Joel was extremely impressed with both the club and the sport itself.
To further increase their accessibility, Eastbourne Bowling Club are currently fundraising to make the inside of their club more accessible, which will include a lift to and from the court. Overall, the club are doing an excellent job to make sure everyone can participate in the sport they love. We can’t wait to see where this partnership takes us, and to explore a new sport!
As always, stay Defiant!
