In a shocking upset in the FA Cups fourth round, underdog team Boreham Wood came away victorious against Championship outfit Bournemouth.
This blew away watchers as Boreham Wood are in the Conference Premier, 3 tiers below Bournemouth yet came away with a win, leading them to take on the Premier League tier team, Everton, in the fifth round at Goodison Park.
Seeing an underdog score a victory against what should be a superior opponent is always an exciting event, especially for those rooting for the underdog.
An underdogs success has a massive impact on the morale and team spirit of a smaller club, it shows them despite their relative size and place compared to a large club, they still have the potential to achieve amazing results.
During the summer of 2020 Boreham Wood was heavily impacted financially from Covid prompting their chairman, Danny Hunter, to re-mortgage his house to pay the players and for testing.
Having been a chairman for 21 years he didn’t see it as a difficult decision to make, feeling as though his life is intertwined with Boreham Wood.
If not for this selfless act, who knows what would have changed. This good deed had allowed this excellent win to come about.
