Happy May everyone! We hope you have all been enjoying the lovely weather we have been receiving and have been utilising the parks, beach and open spaces that have all been opening up. Some of the places that have also been opening up recently have been nursing homes and supported living. During this transition time, a great activity to introduce to your residents is boccia. This is a great opportunity for Defiant Sports to come to your space and provide boccia lessons. We also have boccia sessions with Mencap, Cranbrook, Sovereign Lodge and Memory Lane, so we have lots of experience teaching this great sport.
Boccia is a sport that has been developed for individuals with physical disabilities, but everyone can play! It is a seated game where two teams compete. Each team has 6 balls which they take turns rolling from a ramp, thrown or kicked towards a target white ball. The way in which the team balls are released can be modified to fit any disability. This is what makes boccia such a great inclusive sport! Everybody can participate and have fun. It takes up minimal space, and it has almost no equipment. Since it is a seated game, you can play in a gymnasium or even in your living room. All that is needed is a flat space to roll the balls on! Boccia is a wonderful activity even for all ages and levels of mobility.
Here at Defiant Sports, we are very keen on spreading the knowledge of inclusive sports and activities. We are happy to work with anyone who would like to learn more about Boccia and other inclusive sports, even schools if interested! If you would like to have boccia sessions with us, whether that be nursing homes, supported living, schools or more, please get in touch on info@defiantsports.org.uk / 07887755856.

As always, stay defiant!
