Accessibility Advice

Alongside our mission to provide inclusive sport to all, we want to help others make their venues, facilities, sessions, and staff more disability aware and accessible. As such, we offer various services in relation to accessibility advice, from blueprint checking to advice on how you can make your buildings accessible, to training your staff on how to plan and carry out activities to make them inclusive for all.

Our team has over 20 years of experience in accessibility across numerous projects, alongside creating and providing our own inclusive and accessible venues and activities. This means we are well-versed in all aspects of accessibility, and are able to notice things that may often go ignored. Below are some of the services we can provide to you and your business.

Sessions, Activities and Staffing Advice

Many people are excluded from activities due to a lack of understanding for their conditions, whether that be a visible or invisible disability, or a mental health condition. By having this training, you will ensure your organisation doesn’t exclude anyone, even if this has only happened in the past by mistake.

  • We can visit your organisation or sports centre to train staff on how to make activities more inclusive; from planning, to carrying them out.
  • If you are based in East Sussex, we can provide this training for £35 an hour. If you are outside of Eastbourne, we would also need travel costs covered.
  • In these sessions, there is no limit to participants, meaning we can train as many staff members as you’d like in one session – whether that be your whole team, or just two members.

Venue Consultation – From Blueprints to Site Visits

When building a new venue, leisure centre, and so on, one of the most important aspects is to ensure that everyone can access this space. Creating an accessible venue is more than simply adding a wheelchair ramp, and we can advise you on the other aspects that you might miss if you aren’t familiar with a variety of disabilities and accessibility issues. If your venue is already built, but you want to make it more accessible, we can advise you on how to go about this too.

  • We will visit your site and do a walk around, looking for where accessibility issues are likely to occur, how to prevent these issues, and what to add to ensure everyone can access your venue.
  • Alternatively, you can send us blueprints or building plans, and we can advise you remotely. The advice will be of the same standard as a site visit, and we will provide advice on how to make the plans more accessible, what to change, and why it needs changing, and more. This means you will also benefit from new knowledge of accessibility, and can use this knowledge in the future to create accessible plans from the get-go.
  • These services are all bespoke, and dependent on what you would like us to advise you on, how many hours it takes, and any other individual factors. To discuss your needs, and to get a quote, contact us for more information.

If you would like to discuss either of these services, please contact us on 07887755856, or email info@defiantsports.org.uk. We look forward to helping you bring accessibility and inclusivity into your team and organisation!
