This Black History Month, we wanted to highlight one of Great Britian’s brilliant black, disabled athletes, Karé Adenegan.
Adenegan has cerebral palsy and competes in classification T34 athletics of varying distances.
The competitions Adenegan has competed in are the IPC Athletics 2015 World Championships, the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the World Para Athletics Championships London 2017, the 2018 IPC Athletics European Championships, the Dubai 2019 World Para Athletics Championships, and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Winning one gold, five silver and six bronze medals over the course of her career.
Other than her incredible track record, Adenegan was named the BBC Young Sports Personality of the year in 2018.
She took up the sport way back in 2012 after seeing David Weir and Hannah Cockroft (who Adenegan beat in the 2020 Tokyo Paralymics) racing in their wheelchairs, making her realise “that it was actually a sport out there”.
