As of 30th November 2021 Ellen White, 32, achieved the top spot as England women’s all-time goal scorer. Starting at the young age of 5, she played for Aylesbury Town with and against boys before being scouted at 8 by Arsenal.
In her career she later played for Chelsea, Leeds United, Notts County and Birmingham City, now presently playing for Manchester City. During this time, in March 2010, she debuted for England in a match against Austria scoring at the last minute, winning 3-0.
During this time, she suffered and recovered from 2 serious injuries preventing her from playing for the best part of 2 years. Despite this she never let it defeat her and she was persistent in continuing her spectacular career in sports.
Often described as determined, hard-working, and humble, Ellen is a great inspiration and a wonderful role model for the next generation. Her excellent performance will hopefully inspire many more young girls to take an interest in sport, whether just casually or in hopes of reaching the same heights as Ellen.
In 2022, we at Defiant Sports are hoping to start a women’s, girls and non-binary sports session with support from Loretta, a This Girl Can champion. We want to give as many people as we can the opportunity to join in and get involved in sports, so we hope you’ll be interested!
For those of you who are interested, we also currently run football sessions for adults, Mondays 1:30 – 2:30pm, and kids SEND football, Saturdays 10:30-11:30, both at the Inclusion Hub for £3 per person.
