Last week we mentioned the opening of our Changing Places toilet, and this week we are officially announcing its arrival. It will be completely accessible to public use starting Monday, 12 April! This toilet will be the first of its kind in the Sovereign Harbour, and just the fourth of its kind in all of Eastbourne. We are so proud that we have been able to bring a Changing Places toilet to Sovereign Harbour and have it in our centre!
Changing Places toilets are design to aid individuals with profound disabilities or injuries such as spinal injuries, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis or learning disabilities. The Changing Places toilets provide proficient space and equipment necessary to allow these individuals to be able to safely and comfortably use the toilets. There is even enough room for wheelchairs and carers.
To have one in our building means so much to #TeamDefiant because it will allow us to become even more accessibility to our players, who may have mobility or other issues that make using a regular toilet difficult. Public facilities such as shopping centres, sports venues and art venues are now required to have one per government regulations, and we are so pleased to be included in that conversation with a Changing Places toilet of our own.
Our goal is to provide sport to as many children and adults with disabilities as possible, and having this toilet allows us to open our doors wider for people, and also gives them the opportunity to spend more time in our Hub socialising and playing sports!
The other three Changing Places toilets in Eastbourne are located at Eastbourne District General Hospital, Eastbourne Arndale Centre on Terminus Road, and at the Eastbourne Bandstand, Beach & Seafront. We have also attached a link which provides a detailed map of where each Toilet is located!
